A medical fitness certificate is a document issued by a general practitioner confirming that a patient has no medical conditions preventing them from driving.
In the Czech Republic, this document is called Lékařský posudek o zdravotní způsobilosti k řízení motorových vozidel.

When is a medical certificate required?
You will need a medical examination in the following cases:
- when enrolling in a driving school
- when renewing a driver’s license (every 10 years up to age 65, every 5 years after 65, and every 2 years after 70)
- when exchanging a foreign driver’s license for a Czech one
Reasons for refusal
Certain medical conditions may prevent the issuance of a certificate:
- severe color vision deficiencies
- confirmed alcohol or drug dependence
- multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and other serious neurological disorders
- uncontrolled arterial hypertension
- amputations without prosthetics
- coordination disorders not manageable with treatment
- advanced dementia
- frequent fainting episodes
- severe psychiatric disorders
Patients with visual impairments may receive a certificate marked “způsobilý s podmínkou”, meaning they are fit to drive under the condition of wearing glasses or contact lenses.
Preparation for the examination
No special preparation is required.
Please bring the following to the appointment:
- - passport or ID
- - glasses or contact lenses (if applicable)
- - previous driver’s license (if available)
If you take medications regularly, it is recommended to prepare a list for your doctor.
Alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited for 48 hours before the appointment.
