Stages of organizing diagnostics and treatment

How we help you complete examinations quickly and without queues

In the Czech healthcare system, scheduled endoscopic examinations (gastroscopy, colonoscopy) can take weeks or months even when you have a referral. DOBRO CLINIC solves this problem: we do not have our own endoscopic equipment, but we have partnership agreements with licensed diagnostic centers in Prague. Our task is to find you the earliest opportunity to undergo the examination without a long wait in line. The entire process looks as follows:

Initial consultation with a gastroenterologist.

You come in for an appointment with a gastroenterologist at DOBRO CLINIC. The doctor takes your medical history, performs an examination, and assesses your complaints and medical indications. At this stage, it is determined which examination (or set of examinations) you need, and an official referral is issued — a mandatory document for performing any instrumental diagnostics in the Czech Republic.

Issuing the referral and preparing documents.

If you do not yet have a referral from your treating physician, the clinic’s gastroenterologist issues it right during the consultation. Without this document, the diagnostic center is not permitted to begin the examination, so we always prepare the entire package of paperwork in advance. All you need to do is bring it with you.

Express selection of the date and place of examination.

Our team contacts partner gastroenterology and radiology centers in Prague and promptly finds the earliest available time slot for you. We take into account your preferences regarding time, location, and type of examination (gastroscopy, colonoscopy, MRI, CT, X-ray, etc.). Unlike state polyclinics, we reduce the wait from several months to several days.

Performing the examination at a partner center.

At the appointed time, you arrive at the licensed diagnostic center with your referral and the necessary documents. The procedure is carried out on certified equipment by experienced specialists. If necessary (for endoscopy), you will be given clear preparation instructions — diet, bowel cleansing, and others. Everything takes place in a comfortable setting, and medication-assisted sedation is available on request.

Receiving the results and the concluding consultation.

After the examination is completed, you receive the full report and conclusion (in Czech or English). With these documents, you return to DOBRO CLINIC for a follow-up appointment with the gastroenterologist. The doctor interprets the results, makes the final diagnosis, and prescribes an individual treatment plan — drug therapy, diet, endoscopic interventions, or further monitoring.

Iindications and contraindications

Indications

A consultation with a gastroenterologist is necessary in the presence of the following symptoms and conditions:

pain, discomfort, heaviness, or a feeling of fullness in the abdomen, especially after eating;
heartburn, belching, a sour or bitter taste in the mouth;
nausea, vomiting, bloating, flatulence;
bowel disturbances — diarrhea, constipation, irregular stools;
decreased or absent appetite, unexplained weight loss;
blood in the stool or a change in stool color;
long-term use of medications that irritate the stomach lining;
hereditary predisposition to diseases of the digestive tract or GI cancers;
previously diagnosed GI diseases requiring monitoring and follow-up;
planning an endoscopic screening for the early detection of pathologies;
the need for a comprehensive assessment of the liver and pancreas;
inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis) — for selecting therapy and monitoring;
metabolic disorders related to the function of the liver and pancreas;
excess body weight or obesity — to evaluate endoscopic methods of weight correction.

Contraindications

A gastroenterology consultation, like any medical intervention, has a number of contraindications that are important to be aware of in advance. In most cases, these relate not to the consultation itself but to the instrumental diagnostic methods the doctor may prescribe:

acute infectious diseases with high fever and marked intoxication;
severe blood-clotting disorders (hemophilia, thrombocytopenia, etc.);
acute cardiovascular conditions (myocardial infarction, stroke) in the active phase;
severe respiratory failure;
mental disorders in an acute phase that preclude cooperation with the patient;
pregnancy (for certain instrumental examinations — subject to agreement with an obstetrician-gynecologist);
individual intolerance to the agents used in preparation for endoscopic examinations.

Important: the final decision on whether particular diagnostic procedures can be performed is made by the doctor on the basis of a full medical history and an assessment of the patient’s condition.

Thanks to express scheduling at partner centers, we arrange the examination in the shortest possible time — usually within 3–7 business days after the consultation. In urgent cases, even faster. This differs significantly from state polyclinics, where the queue can stretch to several weeks or months.

Is a doctor's referral mandatory for an endoscopy, MRI, or CT scan?

Yes, it is strictly mandatory. Czech law requires an official referral (žádanka) from the treating physician for any instrumental examination. Without this document, the diagnostic center will not accept you for the procedure. At DOBRO CLINIC, we issue the referral during the initial consultation — so you don’t need to look for another doctor.

Why don't you perform gastroscopy directly at your clinic?

DOBRO CLINIC is a multidisciplinary medical center specializing in consultations, ultrasound diagnostics (with the expert-class LOGIQ™ E10 device), and outpatient treatment. We deliberately do not keep our own endoscopic equipment in order to avoid increasing the cost of services for patients. Instead, we cooperate with the best specialized centers in Prague, where examinations are performed on the most modern equipment, and you receive your results without long queues.

What examinations can you arrange besides gastroscopy?

We help schedule any diagnostic procedures that require a referral: colonoscopy, MRI (of any organs), computed tomography (CT), radiography, as well as specialized endoscopic interventions (for example, polypectomy). Just tell the doctor at the consultation which examination you need, and we will select the optimal center.

Are there any additional fees for arranging express scheduling?

The express scheduling service is included in the cost of your appointment and subsequent care at DOBRO CLINIC. We do not charge any hidden fees for selecting the date and center — you pay only for the doctor’s consultations and the cost of the examination itself at the diagnostic center (according to their price list).
