Ear piercing is a minimally invasive procedure that creates a small opening in the earlobe for wearing jewellery. It is performed at different ages for cultural or aesthetic reasons. If you are looking for a clinic where your child can have their ears pierced with professional care and minimal discomfort, Dobro Clinic is here for you. Our doctors are highly qualified and use earrings made from hypoallergenic alloys.
The Best Age for Children’s Ear Piercing
Ear piercing for children can be carried out at any age; however, we consider the optimal time for the procedure to be between 9 and 12 months. By this age, the earlobe is already sufficiently formed, while not yet affected by active hormonal changes. Piercing too early, especially before 9 months, may lead to the hole shifting over time as the tissues grow, which can affect the aesthetic placement of the earrings.
After the procedure, proper aftercare is essential: we recommend treating the piercing site daily with a special antiseptic gel, which is provided by the nurse immediately after the procedure. This care supports quick and safe healing during the first month.
The initial earrings should not be replaced with permanent jewellery earlier than 2 months after the procedure, and only once full healing has been confirmed. This helps prevent inflammation and ensures comfortable wear in the future.
Preparation Guidelines
It is important that the child is completely healthy at the time of the clinic visit and that 7–10 days have passed since any vaccinations. If the child is older than 3 years, psychological preparation is recommended: explain where you are going and why, let them choose the earrings, and reassure them that it will not hurt. We also recommend bringing a favourite toy.
Ear Piercing Procedure
- The nurse applies an anaesthetic cream to the earlobes.
- We wait 20 minutes for the anaesthetic to take effect.
- The nurse then marks the piercing points and performs the piercing using the single-use Studex System 75.
- After the procedure, the nurse gives the parents an aftercare gel for the piercing sites along with instructions on how to use it.
- If there is any discharge or inflammation at the piercing site within one month, a paediatric consultation is provided free of charge.
About the STUDEX System75
STUDEX products include stylish earrings made from modern hypoallergenic materials, as well as first-piercing equipment that meets international healthcare standards.
The brand’s medical piercing earrings are made from medical-grade steel or durable titanium — materials that minimise the risk of allergic reactions. Ear piercing with STUDEX solutions is hygienic because all products are single-use and stored in individual cartridges.
Another advantage of this method is that it is silent, which makes STUDEX suitable for clients of all ages.
System75 is a sterile ear-piercing system. STUDEX System75 is designed for true piercing — that is, gently separating the tissue rather than forcefully shooting through the skin — and the trigger mechanism is built into the earring itself, so no piercing gun is required. The earrings in this range are made from medical-grade steel, and some models are decorated with Swarovski crystals.
Contraindications
In the traditional sense, there are no medical indications for ear piercing — it is done at the request of the parents and the child. Before the procedure, the doctor must confirm that there are no contraindications, which include:
- haemophilia and other bleeding disorders;
- acute respiratory or other infections;
- serious immune disorders;
- open wounds, burns or other skin damage in the ear area;
- recent vaccination;
- teething;
- age under 3 months;
- dermatological conditions in the treatment area.
